Terms & conditions

1. Who you’re buying from

Arden Pen Co is the trading name of Mike Stephenson, a sole trader.

64 Pickford Green Lane
Allesley
Coventry CV5 9AQ
United Kingdom

Email: Mike@ardenpenco.co.uk
Telephone: 07500 440440

I am not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged on anything you buy here.

2. Ordering

Every pen on the “available now” pages is a single piece that already exists. Your order is accepted when I email you to confirm it, not when payment is taken. If something has sold in the minutes before you paid, I’ll refund you in full straight away and apologise properly.

A configurator submission is a request for a quote, not an order. Nothing is committed and nothing is charged until we’ve agreed a specification and a price between us.

3. Prices and payment

Prices are in pounds sterling and include everything except postage, which is added at checkout. Card payments are handled by Stripe — I never see or hold your card details.

Prices shown on individual pens are what you pay. Prices quoted as “from” on range pages are starting points, and the final figure depends on the materials and fittings you choose.

4. Materials, and what “handmade” means

Every pen is turned individually from natural or salvaged material. Grain, figure and colour vary from piece to piece, and that variation is the point rather than a defect. Photographs are of the actual pen you’ll receive unless clearly stated otherwise.

Timber and fordite both move and mark over a lifetime of use. Colours may deepen or mellow. None of this is a fault.

5. Your own materials

I’m glad to turn wood you send me, and it’s some of my favourite work. But please understand the risk: timber with hidden voids, splits, rot or embedded metal can fail on the lathe, and if it does it cannot be undone. I’ll assess anything you send and tell you honestly what I think before I start. If a piece fails during turning I won’t charge you for the work, but I can’t replace the material.

6. Cancellation and returns

Set out in full on the delivery and returns page, which forms part of these terms. In short: fourteen days to change your mind on a ready-made pen and I’ll pay the return postage; bespoke commissions are exempt from that right because they’re made to your specification.

7. Liability

Nothing here limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t lawfully be limited. Otherwise my liability for any order is limited to what you paid for it.

8. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to the courts of England and Wales — except that if you live in Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, the law of where you live applies instead and you may bring proceedings in your own courts.

Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer, which are essentially the same across the whole of the United Kingdom. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 both apply UK-wide, so a customer in Inverness has exactly the same protections as one in Coventry.
